Lunch date

Posted: March 3rd, 2014 | Author: Chris Payne | Filed under: Uncategorized | No Comments »

I went for vermicelli today with my lady.  I love lunch dates that end up consisting of cheap Vietnamese food.  I shot a bunch of stuff lately but can’t really release anything until they do!  Will post some original images as they appear!  I hope your winter isn’t too bad and that you have had far far too much hot chocolate/tea/coffee/cookies.

Hey everybody.  This is my friend Eric who used to work at the small camera store that I get my film developed by.  He’s insanely nice and is in his last semester at Humber for photography.  I went to be a part of one of his photos and naturally I wanted to try out a couple lights that I will never afford, but also I thought he’d be cool to have a photo of.  Did I mention that you can usually find him downhill skateboarding in California?  Pretty cool guy no?

Hey.  I took some photos of my friend Devin a little while ago, this being an out take.  Pretty excited to hear the tunes that these photos will be attached to, you should be as well!  Enjoy.

Hey.  I shot Jake Bugg the other night.  Here are a couple from that.  Much more concert photos in the next little while.  Enjoy!

Missing summer

Posted: January 8th, 2014 | Author: Chris Payne | Filed under: Uncategorized | No Comments »

Hey.  It’s been pretty damn cold here in the GTA.  Makes me miss the cottage, so here are some photos from my sister in law’s cottage that I never posted.  It’s funny because this was a chilly weekend, but much warmer than it is now.  Anyways, this was the weekend that I found out my brother and Amy are expecting twins.  Can’t wait to meet my nephews and be that uncle that throws water balloons at them constantly.

LED Book lights

Posted: January 7th, 2014 | Author: Chris Payne | Filed under: Uncategorized | No Comments »

Anyone who knows me well knows that I don’t read for leisure.  For Christmas this year my girlfriend and I got LED book lamps, however I didn’t look at them and see book lamps.  So far I have lit one instagram gopro video with them and now have tinkered with lighting photos with them.  They clip onto things and bend in all directions so it makes them pretty much a dream to move into an effective position.  I didn’t spend much time worrying about shadows or how nasty I look (currently battling the flu, haha) but it is really cool what you can do with some book lamps and a camera!

For this shot I used one of the lamps clipped on a stick as a back light and the other clipped on the inside of a door frame as pictured below.  The blue tape was just to mark where my head would be.  The lights being fairly small makes them pretty directional but I managed to get some cool flare out of the back light here and more in the next image.    Camera: Fuji XE-1, 35mm f1.4 @f2.8

For the second photo I thought it would be cool to do a photo that looks nothing like what I usually do.

I clamped both lights onto my tripod, one pointed down onto my face and the other pointed into the lens as pictured below to bring out some more hazy flare.  If I had shot this horizontally (hindsight being 20/20) it gives a sort of cinematic look.  Camera: Fuji XE-1, 35mm f1.4 @f3.2

“That washy look”

Posted: December 30th, 2013 | Author: Chris Payne | Filed under: Uncategorized | No Comments »

Hey.  So I get asked somewhat frequently to take photos and give them that “washed out look”, “kind of hazy look” or the more rare “that VSCO Cam look”.  I always respond with “Sure!” because it is just good customer service but also because it takes 30 seconds.  Almost every time I do this it ends up with tall, skinny white font over it.  I decided I would put it into one image explaining it.  Enjoy!

Good bread

Hey!  I ate this bread the other day.  That’s all I really have to say, I’m just really excited to have time to spend with my camera!  Enjoy!

Brunch and snow

Hey, it’s been a while!  My exams are done, so I can post some photos now that I finally have time!  Today I had brunch at the Drake Hotel.  Great food and great atmosphere with great people.  Then what better way to enjoy the snow storm than with your friend’s pug wearing a sweater?  Tyson certainly looked majestic.  Stay warm everyone!

Getting colder

Hey everyone.  I’m sick and about to hit another week of tests at school so I’m going to put these photos of my mini adventure with my friend Nicolette up here and say see you next week!  Enjoy!

Again: all with my Fuji XE-1 and Jupiter 8 50mm f2.
